Once you receive notification from AMTwith approval you may proceed.

Scheduling Your Exam

There are three location options for your AMTexam 1) at school 2) at a Pearson VUE Testing Center or 3) a private site via live remote proctoring (LRP) on a personal computer. Know which is right for you.

1) At School

If your exam is offered at your school’s Pearson VUE site, your instructor will provide information about the exam date and time.

2) At a Pearson VUE Testing Center

You can take the exam at a Pearson VUE Testing Center near you once you’re authorized to test. Use the authorization code from AMTto create an account with Pearson VUE and schedule your exam.

Please be sure to refer to Pearson Vue for the latest information on all COVD-19 related safety practices.

3) Private Site Via Live Remote Proctoring (LRP)

Currently available for RMA or RPT testing only. In order to access this option, you must choose “Online on a personal computer (LRP)” when you apply for certification. Read this important information before choosing LRP.

To cancel or reschedule

Call Pearson VUE at 1-888-846-6941 on a business day at least 24 hours prior to the start of your examination time. If you are late, turned away, or do not appear for your examination, you must pay a retesting fee to reschedule your examination.

Scheduling tips

  • Schedule as far in advance as possible; scheduling online is preferred to phoning
  • AMTcannot schedule for you
  • The Pearson VUE account you create for the exam is separate from your AMTaccount, so AMTlog-in information won’t work

Take the Exam

Arrive 30 minutes prior to exam time with the required testing items:

  1. Authorization letter (suggested)
  2. Two forms of valid identification
    • Both must have your first and last name identical to your name on your authorization letter
    • Both must bear your signature
    • One form must be a photo ID, either a driver’s license, state ID card, military ID, or passport

Know what to expect:

After the Exam

  • Results are available after the exam and are sent to AMTwithin 48 hours
  • All documentation MUST be complete to receive certification
  • You'll receive an email from Credly to claim your digital badge
  • You may download your certified member card from My AMTPortal.

If your application expires prior to gaining certification, you must submit a new application and fee to continue.

Retesting

If you receive a failing score, you will need to retake the entire exam.

  • Retake is permitted no sooner than 45 days from previous attempt
  • A non-refundable fee is required for each additional attempt
  • You are limited to 4 exam attempts for any one certification
  • Consult the AMTstudy resources to prepare for a retake
  • Pay for your retest by logging in to My AMTPortal/My Applications/My Exam/Not Paid Exam/Pay Exam Fee Now
